The Under 15 Coleraine FC Academy side took on Celtic Boys at Ballymoney Showgrounds on Saturday in the Mid Ulster Youth League Cup Final.  In very poor conditions the young Bannsiders went down 1-0 on the day.  The game opened with both sides keen to play football but Coleraine with the more fluent passing game.  Celtic Boys were content to immediately hit the ball long and play off the second ball as quickly as possibly.  Coleraine started brightly with Shaw, Birkbey and Campbell coming close on separate occasions.  The teams reached half time with the scores level.  Playing into an increasingly strong wind Coleraine continued to take the game to Celtic but could not find a way through a sturdy defence.  Celtic got a corner and from it their centre back powered a header in off the cross bar.  Jamie McAllister had no chance with this and only minutes earlier had astounded everyone in the ground when he saved a shot and was up immediately to save from two yards from the Celtic forward.  A truly outstanding piece of goalkeeping.  With 15 minutes gone Celtic were reduced to 10 men when after a heavy challenge one of their players proceeded to grab Lee Lindsay around the throat.  Young Lindsay is to be commended for remaining totally calm and not retaliating under such provocation.  Despite continuous attacks the young Bannsiders could not find a way through the 10 man defence Celtic had thrown up.  Commenting after the match Stevie McCann paid tribute to the boys saying they have progressed this season.  I told them after the match we couldn't ask for any more from them but to remember the feeling of having lost a cup final and the next time use it to make sure you don''t experience it again.  We played the better football but couldn't score, it has been the same all season.  I have two or three new players coming next season and it will strengthen our team.  The boys have worked hard and they are naturally disappointed but it is about long term development with these boys and we are on the right track, some of them I have no doubt will pull a shirt on for Coleraine in the future at senior level.  I would like to thank John and Damian for all their hard work with this squad and Noel and Jay for looking after the North West Squad they are a fantastic team to work with, but my biggest thanks goes to the boys and parents who have supported us throughout the season, Thank You.  It would be remiss of me not to mention our Captain Scott McCann and wish him a speedy recovery from his serious injury.
