Academy girls session

COLERAINE Football Club are introducing a new girls only training session for girls aged between 8 and 13.
Over the Winter months, the Academy hosted training sessions with under 16 girls, which proved to be very successful.
As the senior ladies football season begins, the under 16 girls have joined Alison Nicholl and her team for training, with a view to strengthening her squad as they prepare for their first season in the National League.
Academy coaches Sam Hickinson and Nichola Forgrave are now keen to get younger girls involved with the Academy set up.
Nichola explained:”Over the winter we’ve been training the under 16 girls in preparation for their move to the senior squad.
“Teenagers Becky Naylor and Lauren Wade have been playing with the senior team now for a few seasons, and Lyndsay Whiteside made her debut last week in a friendly game.
“The other girls will join the senior squad this week, and Alison is looking forward to developing the girls in the months ahead.
“We now want to encourage the younger girls to come along.
“Coleraine Academy aims to develop young players, ideally in a few years we’d like to see the younger girls making the step up to the senior team. We also hope to have junior girls teams participating in summer tournaments,” explained Nichola.
Training will take place every Saturday from 9.30am to 10.30am at Coleraine University, girls aged 8 to 12 are invited to come along, the cost of training is £2 per session. Boots and shinguards are essential.
